Texas White-Tailed Deer Archery Season Opens Early October With Safety Emphasis

Waco Temple Bryan, TX, October 2, 2026 — The annual white-tailed deer archery season is set to commence across the state of Texas on October 3rd, continuing through November 6th. This period marks a significant time for hunters participating in the archery segment of the deer hunting season.

Texas Parks and Wildlife officials are emphasizing the importance of safety protocols for all individuals planning to participate in the upcoming season. The advice centers on proactive measures designed to ensure the well-being of hunters in the field.

Wildlife authorities are strongly encouraging hunters to develop comprehensive hunting plans. These plans should detail intended locations, expected durations of outings, and contingency measures. A critical component of these safety recommendations involves sharing these hunting plans with a reliable contact person, such as a family member or friend, who is not participating in the hunt. This designated contact should be aware of the hunter’s expected return time and procedures to follow if the hunter does not check in as scheduled.

Furthermore, maintaining open lines of communication throughout hunting excursions is highlighted as a key safety practice. This could involve periodic check-ins via mobile devices, where service permits, or other agreed-upon methods to confirm the hunter’s status and location. Such communication helps ensure timely assistance in case of emergencies.

The archery season provides a specific opportunity for hunters to engage with the state’s wildlife management efforts. The dates for this season are established to align with wildlife management goals and hunting traditions within Texas.
