Fort Hood Hosts Inaugural 3-Gun Competition for Soldiers, Law Enforcement, and Veterans
Fort Hood, Texas, recently hosted its first-ever 3-gun competition, pitting soldiers against local law enforcement officers and veterans in a challenge combining marksmanship and physical fitness at the Clear Creek small arms range.
Waco Temple Bryan, TX, October 9, 2026 — Fort Hood, Texas – The Clear Creek small arms range on Fort Hood recently became the venue for a significant first: the installation’s inaugural 3-gun competition. This unique event brought together personnel from various sectors, including active-duty soldiers, local law enforcement officers, and veterans, to test their skills in a demanding discipline that merges precision shooting with physical endurance.
The competition marks a notable occasion for Fort Hood, establishing a new type of event that fosters inter-agency and inter-service camaraderie. The 3-gun format, known for its dynamic stages, requires participants to engage targets using three distinct types of firearms: a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol. Success in such an event hinges not only on a competitor’s accuracy and speed with each weapon but also on their ability to transition efficiently between them while navigating physical obstacles or movements.
This initiative at Fort Hood highlights a growing trend in tactical and marksmanship competitions that aim to simulate real-world scenarios, demanding a high level of proficiency across multiple skill sets. The involvement of local law enforcement officers alongside military personnel and veterans underscores the shared commitment to marksmanship excellence and physical readiness that exists within these professional groups.
While the summary of the event did not specify the exact number of participants or the particular challenges presented in each stage of the competition, it confirmed that the primary objective was to combine marksmanship proficiency with physical fitness. Such events are often designed to build teamwork, enhance combat readiness for service members, and strengthen relationships between military installations and surrounding communities. The success of this first-ever competition at Fort Hood may pave the way for future similar events, further promoting skill development and interoperability.
