The Nashville-based indie alt-folk/Americana songwriter explores the space between trying to help and knowing when to step back

NASHVILLE, TN / MusicWire / Oct. 23, 2026 — What do you do when every attempt to help someone has failed, but you are not ready to close the door? On “Dust,” the release-day focus track from her new EP From Now On, Sloan Treacy stays with that question.

The song lives in the uncertain moment between “Scared of the Dark” and “Dissonance”: deciding whether to back off or keep trying, leaving an opening for someone you care about, and accepting that you cannot make them walk through it. From Now On is available now.

Produced by Nick Autry, recorded at Nashville’s Sound Stage Studio and written entirely by Treacy, the EP brings together previously released singles “Safety Pins,” “Closure” and “Dissonance” with two new songs, “Scared of the Dark” and “Dust.”

“Dust” catches Treacy in the middle of a decision, before distance feels settled and before another offer of help feels possible. The door remains open; the choice to enter belongs to the other person. That tension makes the song a revealing entry point to the EP’s larger conversation about care, responsibility and limits.

On the other newly released song, “Scared of the Dark,” Treacy gives language to the exhaustion that precedes that decision.

It traces the exhaustion of trying to help someone who does not want help: watching people tiptoe and choose their words to keep the peace, then being blamed for pain they did not cause despite every effort to ease it.

Treacy also makes room for the anger and sadness that follow. The song recognizes that those feelings deserve to be felt, even when someone else insists you are the problem.

That willingness to name complicated feelings runs through Treacy’s writing.

On the previously released “Dissonance,” she explores the helplessness of watching someone go through something you have already lived through yourself, wanting to reach out while understanding that a person has to be ready to accept what you offer. “Dust” occupies the moment between that understanding and the fatigue voiced in “Scared of the Dark.” Earlier singles “Safety Pins” and “Closure” round out the collection.

From Now On does not pretend that knowing your limits makes a hard choice easy. In “Dust,” Treacy gives the unresolved part its own song: the hope that someone will accept an invitation, even as you recognize that the decision must be theirs.

Originally from Los Angeles and now based in Nashville, Treacy is an emerging voice in the space where indie folk, Americana and alternative singer-songwriter music intersect. Her work is driven first by lyrics: specific, observant and unafraid of emotional ambiguity.

With “Dust” leading its release-day introduction, From Now On offers a fuller picture of Treacy’s lyric-centered approach to indie folk and Americana.

From Now On is available now on all major streaming platforms.
