MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – October 19, 2026 – Fall is one of the busiest seasons for runners in Charleston, with cooler temperatures, a packed local race calendar and runners training for everything from neighborhood 5Ks to winter half marathons and marathons.
For runners looking to get more involved in the Charleston running community, Blue Sky Endurance, a locally owned specialty running store in Mount Pleasant, says one of the best places to start isn’t necessarily with a race registration — but with finding people to run with.
“Charleston has an incredible running community, and you don’t have to be fast or experienced to be part of it,” said Catherine Hollister, owner of Blue Sky Endurance. “Some people are training for a marathon or chasing a PR, while others simply want a reason to get out the door a few times a week. There is a place for all of them.”
Find a Free Running Group in Mount Pleasant
One of the easiest ways to become part of the local running community is simply to show up.
Blue Sky Endurance hosts two free weekly group runs in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Both are open to the community, and participants do not need to be Blue Sky Endurance customers.
Monday Night Group Run — Carolina ParkRunners and walkers meet at Blue Sky Endurance’s Carolina Park location at 3510 Park Avenue Blvd. Dynamic stretching begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by the run at 6:15 p.m. Participants can choose approximately 3 or 5 miles, and a range of paces is welcome.
Saturday Morning Group Run — Coleman BoulevardThe Saturday group meets at 7:00 a.m. at Blue Sky Endurance, 624 Coleman Blvd. Routes vary from week to week and often incorporate some of Mount Pleasant’s most recognizable running destinations.
“We want someone to feel comfortable walking into a group run even if they’ve never done one before,” Hollister said. “You don’t have to earn your way into the running community. Showing up is enough.”
Explore Some of Mount Pleasant’s Most Popular Running Routes
Running in Charleston doesn’t have to mean repeating the same neighborhood loop.
Mount Pleasant offers access to a variety of running routes and scenery, including the Old Village, Pitt Street Bridge, Shem Creek and the Ravenel Bridge, as well as routes toward Sullivan’s Island.
Blue Sky Endurance’s Saturday group runs regularly explore different parts of Mount Pleasant, giving runners an opportunity to discover new routes while running with others.
Runners should always consider traffic, visibility, weather, lighting and current route conditions when choosing where and when to run, particularly during early-morning and evening hours.
Put a Charleston-Area Race on the Calendar
Fall race season offers another way to become involved in the local running community.
Charleston-area runners can choose from short-distance community races, trail events and longer endurance events throughout the fall and winter. For runners new to racing, Blue Sky Endurance recommends choosing a manageable distance and focusing on the experience rather than comparing pace or finish time with other participants.
“Having something on the calendar gives your training a purpose,” Hollister said. “A local 5K can be just as meaningful a goal as a marathon. The distance isn’t what makes the goal important.”
Don’t Wait Until You’re “Fast Enough” to Run With Other People
A common concern among newer runners is whether they are fast enough to join a running group.
Blue Sky Endurance encourages runners and walkers not to let pace keep them from participating.
Its community runs include people training for different distances, running at different speeds and pursuing very different goals. In addition to the social side of group running, having a regular place and time to meet can provide accountability when motivation starts to fade.
“Some of the best friendships we’ve seen have started because someone decided to show up for a group run,” Hollister said. “Running can be an individual sport without being something you always have to do alone.”
Make Sure Your Running Shoes Fit Your Goals
Fall training season is also a good time for runners and walkers to evaluate their footwear, particularly if their current shoes have accumulated significant mileage, no longer feel comfortable or don’t match their current training needs.
Blue Sky Endurance offers professional running shoe fittings in Mount Pleasant. Rather than selecting footwear based solely on popularity, appearance or an online recommendation, the fitting process helps customers compare options based on factors including foot shape, sizing, comfort, movement and intended use.
There isn’t one “best running shoe” for every runner. A shoe that works well for one person’s daily miles may not be the right choice for another runner — and the ideal everyday training shoe may be different from a shoe used for racing, trails or walking.
